Dirk Taillaert received the master degree in electrical engineering from Ghent University, Belgium, in 1999. He started working as a researcher in the Department of Information Technology, Ghent University in August 1999 and received the PhD degree in November 2004. Then he worked on optical sensors with a postdoctoral grant from the IWT, and the development of diffractive optical components for use in CO2 lasers. Now he is working for Caliopa, a UGent-IMEC spin-off company that develops transceivers based on silicon photonics technology.
His research interests include design, fabrication and characterization of microphotonic and nanophotonic components. Dirk Taillaert is a member of the IEEE-Photonics society.
