Research
Ghent University is internationally recognized for its pioneering research in photonics, driven by leading groups such as the Photonics Research Group, the Liquid Crystals and Photonics group, the Centre for Microsystem Technology, and IDLab Design. These teams collaborate on cutting-edge developments in photonic integrated circuits, packaging, and electronic-photonic co-design.
A key enabler of this research is
NaMiFab, UGent’s Core Facility for nano- and microfabrication, which provides state-of-the-art cleanroom infrastructure for prototyping and fabricating advanced photonic devices. This integrated ecosystem supports innovation from fundamental research to practical applications in communications, sensing, and healthcare.
