Dr. ir. Koen Huybrechts (Doctoral Researcher)

Koen Huybrechts received his master degree in Physics Engineering from Ghent University in 2006. He spent the last year of his engineering studies at the Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (Stockholm, Sweden) where he finished his Master’s thesis work at the research group of prof. Min Qiu. Since August 2006, he is working towards a PhD degree at the Photonics Research Group under a specialization grant from the Flemish "Institute for the promotion of innovation through science and technology" (IWT). His research, under supervision of prof. Geert Morthier, is focused on the realization of all-optical flip-flops and all-optical signal processing. He has been a visiting researcher at the the University of Tokyo and the Technical University of Denmark. Within his doctoral research, he has been active within the European FP7 Historic project. Currently, he is at Stanford University as a visiting scholar.
He was elected vice-chairman and chairman of the IEEE Photonics Society Benelux Student Chapter in resp. 2009 and 2010. He received the IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship in 2010.Specific Research Topics
