Abstract
Many medical device applications are in great need of compact, robust and low-cost sensors. Optics provides a wealth of light-enabled sensing principles. Considering both factors together there is an enormous potential for medical devices implemented by means of photonic integration technologies, especially when they build on the nano-scale maturity of the CMOS-world. In this talk I will discuss several examples of proof-of-concept medical devices implemented by means of silicon or silicon nitride photonic ICs, both for in-vitro and in-vivo applications. |
