Abstract

Microring resonators on Silicon-on-Insulator are investigated for both orthogonal polarizations. We demonstrate low-loss single order microring notch (intrinsic Q up to 340000) and ad-drop filters with high roll-off using TM-polarized light. Compared to TE-polarized light, the fundamental TM mode in silicon waveguides is hardly affected by the sidewall roughness, resulting in an improved optical loss (1.94dB/cm).
