Clemens received his B.SC. in Information Technology in 2008 from TUHH (Technical-University Hamburg-Harburg).

In 2012, he finished his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at TUHH with a study focus on microsystem technology and nanoelectronics. During a master semester abroad at the KTH Roal Institute of Technology, he covered courses in the field of semiconductor- and nanomaterials. For his master thesis, Clemens explored post-process-tuning of the amorphous silicon in photonics waveguides.

Clemens started his PhD research in the Photonics Laboratory at Chalmers University of Technology in 2012. Here, he worked with low-loss photonics waveguides of silicon nitride. He studied how the material composition effects both optical and mechanical properties. For his research he received the doctoral degree in 2017.

In 2017, Clemens joined Ghent University-IMEC as a postdoctoral researcher. He is currently working towards a reconfigurable optical networks within the SOI platform. His work is part of the European SPICE project that explores all-optical switching of magnetic memory cells.

His general interests cover nanofabrication technologies, integrated photonics and digital electronics.
